EGF is a polypeptide substance secreted by certain types of cells of the body. It works by stimulating other cells to divide, grow or differentiate. It is necessary in the process of regeneration and healing at the level of the epidermis as well as the dermis. EGF stimulates the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes, stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and is responsible for epitellialisation occurring during wound healing.
